Bantam A Dodgers Blue Take Tournament Win

The Dodgers Blue capped a fun and challenging weekend in Port Coquitlam by being crowned 2017 champs at the Walter Bird memorial tournament over the weekend of May 4-7th.

The Dodgers opened up pool play with a 12-3 victory over the PoCo Angels on Thursday evening.  Scott G was our MVP going 3 for 3 with a great fence line catch to boot.

Saturday was a double header and we took the first game 16-5 against the PoCo Black Sox.  Damon V was our player of the game, pitching 5 strong innings.

In the second game of the double header, we entered the final inning tied 5-5 against the PoCo Cardinals but could not match the 4 runs they put across in the final inning, scoring just 2 of our own and  falling 9-7.  Miles H pitched a solid 5 innings for the MVP.

In the Sunday finals, we again matched up against the PoCo Black Sox, who brought their A game.  The Dodgers fell behind early and just couldn't mount any offence.  We played tight, with several errors and some mental lapses, and found ourselves on the wrong end of a 6-1 score midway through the 4th.  But then the team began to chip away, plating 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th, and then tying up the game at 6 in the bottom of the 6th inning.  The Black Sox loaded the bases in the 7th inning but couldn't bring in a run.  The Dodgers in turn got a runner to 3rd in the bottom of the 7th but couldn't hit him home.

On to extra innings.  In the top of the 8th, The PoCo Black sox got a runner on, but got no further than second base before the side was retired.  In the bottom of the 8th, Alex led off with a single up the middle, and promptly stole second and then third before Damon stroked a walk off line drive to left field to give the Dodgers the 7-6 victory.  Alex F was our MVP, pitching the final 4 shutout innings and scoring the game winning run.

Congratulations to the team and our thanks to PoCo Minor Baseball for putting on another great tournament.
